Chinese Gold Panda coins were first introduced by the government in China in 1982 in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz weights. After just one year, a 1/20 oz coin was added to the program.
These 2016 Chinese Gold Panda coins are part of a special gold and silver six-coin set from the Chinese Mint. These commemorative gold and silver coins feature the all-new 2016 panda design, and the traditional image of the Temple of Heaven on the reverse.
On the reverse face of the coin you’ll find the latest image of a giant panda to grace the coin program. In the depiction, a single adult panda is featured climbing along a downed tree trunk. The bamboo wall that has become so familiar in the design in recent years returns on this design, with the face value, weight, metal content, and purity of the coin engraved below.
The obverse features the familiar Temple of Heaven. Located in the south-central part of Beijing, the Temple of Heaven has stood for thousands of years, and traditionally served as a house of worship and sacrifice for emperors.
The Chinese Mint does not issue coins with a mint mark, so it is difficult to determine which facilities in the system contribute to production. Known facilities exist in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Shenyang.
